The decision to replace the teeth of an entire arch is a fundamental step in the life of completely toothless patients. In this article we will illustrate the different techniques for replacing the teeth of an entire arch and their long-term effectiveness.
Replace the teeth of an entire arch: the techniques.
If we want to replace the teeth with fixed prostheses, the two main techniques for the rehabilitation of an entire arch are mainly:
- deferred loading implantology
- immediate loading implantology
When we talk about deferred loading implantology we mean a rehabilitation operation that is performed in two distinct phases: in the first operation the implants are inserted and the completion of the osseointegration phase and the healing of the treated area is awaited; subsequently the prostheses that replace the teeth are screwed.
For completely edentulous patients, delayed loading implantology involves longer times for complete rehabilitation.
With immediate loading implantology, on the other hand, it is possible to replace the teeth already in the first intervention. In particular, the All-on-4 immediate loading dental technique allows you to replace all the teeth of the arch in 24 hours and with only four implants.
All-on-4 immediate-loading implantology therefore represents an innovative technique that minimizes patient trauma.
Rehabilitation of an entire arch: what happens after 10 years?
Immediate loading implantology therefore allows the teeth of an entire arch to be replaced in a single session. A recent study carried out by a team of Japanese researchers and published in the Journal of Prosthodontic Research, evaluated the success of this type of implant 10 years after surgery.
The researchers took 52 patients for a total of 220 implants inserted to replace the teeth of entire arches with immediate loading implantology.
The following data emerged 10 years after the insertion of the implants on the entire arch:
- 93.9% success of the intervention
- 13 implants with implant failure (out of 7 patients overall)
- greater number of implant successes in female subjects
In cases of implant failure, it is still possible, secondly, to remedy the loss of the implant.
Replacing teeth with immediate loading implantology is for the completely toothless patients one of the best possible solutions. Thanks to the All-on-4 or All-on-6 techniques it is also possible to rehabilitate the entire arch with a minimally invasive, pain-free and short-term operation.
A condition that brings an edentulous patient to a new life. That discomfort condition that only those who have lost their teeth know well: the shame of speaking or smiling in public, being unable to eat, not talking well, can be completely resolved within 24 hours.
